Head of Aadhaar Card UIDAI Project

Unique Identification Authority of India working under the overall supervision of the Planning Commission, Government of India is carrying out the entire process of Aadhaar Card. In the process they are partnering with various Registrars to enroll residents that are eligible to get Aadhaar Card.

Present Constitution of Authorities

Present Chairman of UIDAI is Sri Nandan Nilekani and has the rank as well as the status of a Cabinet Minister. He was recently the Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Infosys Technologies Limited founded way back in the year 1981. Sri Nilekani has served as one of the leading officials of Infosys from 1981 through the year 2009. In course of serving he had held the posts of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, President, as well as Chief Operating Officer of the organization.

He also founded the National Association of Software and Service Companies in India (NASSCOM). Another organization that he founded and headed was the Bengaluru chapter of the IndUS Enterprises. A member of the Board of Governors of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), he was also the president of NCAER. The NCAER is the premier research institute on applied economics in India.

The journey through the past

Nilekani was born in Bengaluru and completed Bachelor’s Degree from the IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Electrical Engineering. In 2004 he was named as the Corporate Citizen for the year at Asia Business Leaders’ Award that was organized by CNBC. He also received the prestigious Joseph Schumpeter Prize for innovative economic services and his contribution to economic science and politics in the year 2005.

That is not all. Nilekani was also honored with one of the highest civilian honors in the country, the Padma Bhushan Award in the year 2006 and the same year he was also named as the Businessman of the year by the Forbes Asia. Icing on the cake was his listing as one of the most influential persons on the globe during 2006-09 by the Time Magazine.

Currently Sri Nilekani is the Director General and Mission Director of UIDAI and guiding the entire operation relating to Aadhaar cards in the country.
